A Year of Making Life Beautiful

Hello all!  Today is my day to gush about the book, A Year of Making Life Beautiful.
I've hinted at how awesome this book is.  I've even shared it with a few of you.  However, you never really realize how awesome it is until you sit down and look through it!

I was lucky enough to be along for the ride while Melissa was writing the book.  I've tasted a lot of the recipes (delicious!), I got to quilt a lot of the quilts, and I got to see the pictures almost as they were being taken.

What you have to understand is that the book is Melissa's life.  While looking at the book, you might think that it just seems so perfect.  Nobody's life is perfect, but Melissa's life is just as beautiful as it seems jumping off of the pages!

She is one of the most beautiful people that I know.  And now you're lucky enough to see inside of her world.

The book is full of projects to "bake, sew, craft and grow".  I always joke that it's very Martha Stewart-y (really, it totally is!).  Her recipes are fabulous, her quilt designs are fresh and not too intimidating, her craft projects are AWESOME (I want to do the December project so badly!), and she knows so much about gardening it almost makes me want to give it another try!

Her book is fabulous, and you should have a copy or four.  It's available in a super-awesome soft-cover spiral-bound version (which makes it really easy for reference), or in hard cover as a limited edition directly from her website.  It's divided up in months of the year, just like a calendar and just like the title, it truly is a year of making life beautiful!

If you'd like to buy a copy, please visit her website and get yourself a hard cover version.  She'll even sign it for you before sending it out in the mail!

BUT, if you'd like the chance to win a copy, leave a comment on this post.  In your comment, let's have some fun and tell me what your favorite color is.  I'm not a fan of purple, but there are some people that are changing that.  I may turn into a purple lover after all!

  1. Pick me, pick me! LOL My favorite color is probably black. At least that's what my wardrobe is telling me. But if you want real color, then pink. ;)

  2. I love the color red, but it's not a color I can wear. I use it a lot in my quilting and sewing projects. This book looks amazing. Thanks for a chance to win a copy!

  4. It's always been a toss up between blue and green. But... I think that makes me like 85% of the people out there. How about if I say I love Olive green. It seems to be my new love. Never would have thought it, but I'm using a lot of it lately. Hope you're feeling good. Take care, and thanks for the chance to win.

I'm into orange...kind of a tangerine actually. Judging by previous posts this may be in the air (as in infectious).

  8. Lately I have moved from orange to butterscotch especially if it is with gray.

  9. Either blue, or aqua, or green, or orange, or.....why do I have to pick a SINGLE color, really? Isn't that why I quilt?

  16. Hi Lisa,
Blue has always been my favorite, going all the way back to parochial school. Most people end up hating the color of their school uniforms; I ended up loving it.
Thanks for participating in this giveaway-I could use some beauty for the next year of my life.

  19. AQUA!!! Lately I have been drawn to aqua's like a drowning woman to water :*) I even saw an aqua snake in the road a few weeks ago when I was walking around my neighborhood! No joke!!! I learned it was a green snake and was reminded that yellow & blue make green. When it died the yellow pigments faded quickly, leaving only the blue pigments. Cool huh? Just sayin' :*)

  25. I like the color of the sky late in a sunset. I may be cheating, as the sky is full of colors, but as the light fades and the colors all become muted, they are all just so gorgeous.

  27. Okay, McLisa, you asked for it.....:o) I see you have been practicing (see below) so it just won't be long. And it is just perfect with magenta. And yellow. And green. And black. And red. THAT is why God made purple flowers :o)

WHEN I AM AN OLD WOMAN I SHALL WEAR PURPLE
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
    And learn to spit

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

  39. I love the color of the world. I can't give you a name because I don't think there is one. But if you take the time to really look around yourself each day and try to think of a color to put to the vision, it might just be "perfect". So I love the color "perfect".

  40. I love orange, partly because it shocks and surprises people, but it is happy and sunny. I think every quilt needs a little bit of it! Thank you for the giveaway!

  41. Melissa's book sounds so awesome and her photos are amazing. I'm so glad to hear she is as nice in person as she sounds on her blog. hehe. My all time favorite color is bright yellow. It's not a color I can wear though. I kinda have favorite colors for different things. Is that wierd? Like I love to wear blue. With quilting at the moment it's red.

Thank you and Melissa for a super giveaway and a chance to win.
